13 "Joyful is the person who finds wisdom,
the one who gains understanding.
14 For wisdom is more profitable than silver,
and her wages are better than gold.
15 Wisdom is more precious than rubies;
nothing you desire can compare with her.
16 She offers you long life in her right hand,
and riches and honor in her left.
17 She will guide you down delightful paths;
all her ways are satisfying.
18 Wisdom is a tree of life to those who embrace her;
happy are those who hold her tightly."
Proverbs 3:13-18
Recently, God's been teaching me about wisdom. I always knew it was a gift that He gave me, beginning at a young age. I may not have known, at the time, that it was wisdom that I had but I always had a knack for approaching and understanding situations in a different way. I was always able to bring advice to my friends or family without having any experience in their situations. As I've grown in my relationship with Christ, I learned that God granted me wisdom in those situations and continues to do so. He granted me the gift of understanding and knowledge.
As I was reading proverbs, the above passage struck me. The idea that with wisdom comes joy and satisfaction. Wisdom eliminates fear (Prov. 1:33) and secures your future (Prov. 3:9-10).
It is important that we seek Christ for wisdom every day in the choices we make. Wisdom in how we interact with others, in leading our families, within our finances and our careers. With wisdom comes better understanding of our Father and His will for our lives.
I've started commanding my day each morning during my journal time and I've asked God to give me wisdom on the things I am seeking Him for. For instance, I'm seeking Christ for a new career and instead of asking for a new career solely, I'm asking Him to give me wisdom on how to search for a new career. Wisdom on the type of career I should have:
God, give me wisdom on the type of career I should be looking for because the one I have in mind may not be what You have for me.
I'm asking God to give me wisdom on what I need to do to prepare for the career He has for me. I'm also praying for God to give me wisdom on if I should change careers at all. Is this a fleshly desire or Christ's will for my life? Instead of telling God what I want, I'm asking Him to come into my life and guide me:
Realign me with Your will, oh God and give me perspective on Your will over my life. These are the things I want God, but are they what You want for me? If not, change my desires to Yours. Now God, show me how to achieve them. What should I do to prepare for the things You have for me, oh Father?
I want to encourage you to seek Jesus for wisdom in EVERYTHING you do. Not just when things get rough and not after something has already gone crazy but in the very beginning. Before you even begin to think about your day, stop, and command wisdom over it. Wisdom with every major and minor task or situation. This is a way to invite Him into your life daily and make Him a part of everything you do. Even ask Him for wisdom with your prayer life. Ask Him not only for what you should pray for but how you should pray for it.
We need Christ in every area of our lives. There is nothing too big for Him. We need His guidance, following His voice constantly. Invite Him in. It pleases Him to be a part of your life.
Oh Father, may we be intertwined with You always!
